I’ve spent the past three years of my Christian life never coming into an experiential knowledge of the Holy Spirit. It is an unfortunate truth that I have lived my life never paying attention to the third person of the Trinity. The one who makes the new birth possible by bearing with our spirit that we are the children of God Romans 8: 15. To live a spirit filled life was something I had attributed to a near future as opposed to a promise that Christ Jesus declared to the church for everyone who believed in him. The promise that An eternal being will dwell with us and in us forever John 14:16. One of the most profound truths that I am experiencing is that God lives in me through the Holy Spirit. This revelation is enough to transform my entire outlook on what it truly means to be a Christian. Christianity is not a religion but an intimate relationship made possible by the Holy Spirit who establishes, leads, equips and keeps us in the love of the father through Christ Jesus in whom the heart of the father is revealed to us. Christianity is an invitation to partake in the incomprehensible union of the three persons of the trinity through an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit John 14:20.
A Spirit of Adoption
In submission and surrender we come into a new realm of intimacy where we operate in power, in the greatest power that the world has ever seen. The resurrecting power of Jesus Christ which lives in us. What a wonder, what a gift to internalize beyond just understanding that we are children of God because we are a new creation made possible through the Holy Spirit. What a marvelous gift. I am in awe , filled with gratitude that our Lord and savior saw it fit that we would never be orphaned John 14:18. Rather he would send a comforter, an advocate who would lead us into all truth so we may never stray away but be empowered with boldness to declare his name in all the ends of the earth Acts 1:8 As children of God we can experience the eternal unity of the father and son through the presence of the Holy Spirit.
A new Creation is Everything
In his letter to the church of Galatia Paul writes in
Galatians 6: 15 “For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is anything but a new Creation is everything”.
It is everything and the only thing because it is primarily rooted in the the resurrecting power of Christ Jesus. It is the Holy Spirit that is responsible for the new birth which makes it possible to live for the Glory of Christ. It is the Holy Spirit that makes the love of Jesus Christ the greatest reality of our lives. The new Creation is everything because the power that brings the new beings into existence has always existed and will exist beyond time Psalms 90:2.
In Galatians 4:4-7 Paul writes;
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his son, born of a Woman, born under the law in order to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children of God, God has sent the spirit of his son into our hearts crying Abba father, so you are no longer a slave but a child and if a child then also an heir, through God.
To Cry out Abba father
To cry out is to live in a realm of reality that assures us of the access to the father through the redemption of Christ and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. Because Christ lives we can boldly walk In the awareness that we are his children. Christ boldly declared to his disciples that because he lives, we will live also John 14:19. We live because Christ lives through the resurrecting power of the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit gives us access to a life characterized by unity with the father through the son and the son through the Holy Spirit John 14:23. Christ is the way the truth and the life therefore our life is lived through the revelation of who he is, by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit who teaches everything and reminds us of all Christ has said John 14:26.
Based on the degree of intimacy we foster with the Holy Spirit, we are led into the way, the truth and the life because the spirit reveals Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ promised that when the spirit of truth comes, he will guide us into all truth for he will not speak of his own, but will speak whatever he hears and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me because he will take what is mine and declare it to you John 16:12.
An intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit fosters a deeper longing for greater intimacy, a desire and hunger to know him more and the awareness of an eternal love rooted in unity and oneness with all the persons of the trinity.
What a marvelous gift to live knowing that we are the children of the Almighty God. That we do not worship in vain, we do not seek in vain we do not cry out in vain. That God lives in us. That Christ in us is the hope of glory. The glory which is to be completed at the end of time when we are set free from the bondage of decay through the power of the Holy Spirit. May God help us to understand what it truly means to be his children. The inheritance that we have through our Savior Jesus Christ. To understand that without being led into all truth by the Holy Spirit Our revelation of truth is limited to what we hear, never coming into the experiential knowledge of the Holy Spirit exemplified through a surrendered life to his Lordship.
