Nothing is hidden from you my Lord. All I am, all I feel, all I think is visible to you. In your presence every fig tree is exposed, all flesh lays bare and is completely undone by your mercy and steadfast love. Create in me a clean heart and renew the right spirit in me (Psalms 51:10). Without your light, what is the content of my heart. What good is in a heart devoid of your presence. What is the human heart except a pit of darkness dominated by deceit. What good is the will of man when our efforts to be and do good are nothing but filthy rags in your sight (Isaiah 64:6). Nothing is impossible for you my Lord, you alone can take our hardened hearts and turn them into flesh, it is by your will that your children receive a new heart and spirit (Ezekiel 36:26). No one else can deliver us from the dominion of darkness (Colossians 1:13). Teach me to honour your word, through fellowship with your Spirit at work in me and cause me to know the ease in surrender. My Lord, it is only in knowing the Righteousness and Holiness of your heart that may cause me to yield and humbly ask in each moment that you create in me a clean heart and renew the right spirit.
Honor the Word of God
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
The revelation of the Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit exposes the parts in us that are still dominated by the workings of the flesh. The word comes alive in us through the Holy spirit who teaches and guides us into all truth (John 16:13) . Honour comes from a revelation of the supremacy of Jesus Christ over all realms of existence. Without the revelation of his being in our lives, to honour his word is impossible. We live in a society that is governed by lawlessness and yet as the children of God we are called to live under the governance and the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is not enough to be filled with head knowledge about God, but to have the revelation of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us. It begins when we understand that nothing good can ever come out of our works. It is in the simplicity of the Gospel which has called us into fellowship with God living in us. We begin the journey of honouring the word of God when we acknowledge the presence of the one who wrote the Holy Scriptures through daily communion with his being in us.
Simplicity of Fellowship
The simplicity of the fellowship with the Spirit of the living God is in coming to the knowledge of his friendship and his eagerness to commune with us in every moment of our lives. The Holy Spirit can never impose on us because he is our helper and our comfort (John 14:26). The level of intimacy we foster with the Holy spirit is completely dependent on our willingness to draw near to him due to our helplessness without his Lordship. It is not in any effort on our end but a simple cry out, a hunger to know the word that attracts the Spirit of the living God. It is in yearnings of the lowly, the cry of the humble that God delights in.
The only sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart broken with sorrow for sin, thoroughly penitent, such O God you will not despise (Psalms 51:17).
Ease in Surrender
Fellowship with the Holy Spirit begins when we understand that his ministry is attracted to the lowly in heart the broken in spirit and those who cry out in desperate cries. It begins when we understand that without intentional yielding and surrendering to the Spirit of God we can’t come into the knowledge of Jesus Christ. We do not know Jesus Christ by our efforts to know him, the books we read, the sermons we listen to, we come to know our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ through the fellowship with the Holy Spirit who reveals Christ to us. The Holy Spirit through revelational knowledge teaches us to honour the word of God which is spirit and life (John 6:63).
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8
We draw near to God through surrender, we draw near to his presence when we understand the simplicity of fellowship with God at work in us. It is in his presence, by his word that all wickedness still present in our hearts are exposed. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that our hearts are purified and sanctified in his presence. It is in the purity of Heart that we come to see our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ in his glorified state (Matthew 5:8).
