All voids are filled in Christ

All voids are filled in Christ alone. No void too mighty, no emptiness too vast for his infinite love to fill. No darkness too great that his light can’t illuminate. Only he can call us out of darkness into his marvellous light 1 Peter 2:9. In his presence he holds the yearnings and longings of our innermost being, oneness with him. No amount of success, love, sex, friendship, career, can ever fill the emptiness we all live to confront in different ways. In all we are, all we desire , all our yearnings is a reality that we have a lack that nothing in this world can fill. Our intent in each and every pursuit we embark on is a need to reach a place of satisfaction without the one through whom all things were created Colossians 1:16. Regardless of the inexhaustible list of options to satisfy us, at each turn we are met with disappointment, because no created thing can ever fill a void that was meant to be occupied by the one who holds all things by his word Colossians 1:17.

In his light

In his marvellous light every void rooted in fear, rejection, unbelief, rebellion and disobedience is brought under his judgement. In his judgement of wickedness, his unending mercies cover all iniquity. It is in his love that he continuously calls us out of darkness. I’ve spent the majority of my life never coming into the understanding of what it means to be a child of the light. Like the majority I’ve never questioned my pursuits, nor examined the intent of my heart in all that I’ve categorized as vital. I thank God for his word, Jesus Christ who is light. It is in him that all the parts of me that are rooted in wickedness are exposed. In his marvellous light all intent and motive of the heart are shown to me Hebrews 4:12. It is in those moments were I am filled with gratitude for the love of my father in Christ Jesus, who meets me exactly where I am with his gentleness he exposes the root of each pursuit. I’ve come to understand that unless my heart is created anew and a right spirit is put in me all things that I pursue wether I deem to be worthy or good are worthless and a waste of time if they are conceived out of a wrong heart. An impure heart is empty, needy and desperate to fill itself with everything but the truth. A truth which is uncomfortable at times nonetheless a truth which sets us free.

Truth is uncomfortable

For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edge sword , penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Truth is only uncomfortable when we are filled with pride. There are moments when God through his word shows us the content of our hearts and because we’ve built a deceptive understanding of our own goodness it is uncomfortable. In his word he shows us that all our righteousness and self righteousness are nothing but filthy rags Isaiah 64:6. In the deepest parts of our old nature, all wickedness unknown to us is shown and it takes meekness to humbly ask God to search our hearts. To show us why we idolize his creation more than we worship him for who he is. No matter what life, reputation, career and significance you’ve created for your self it will amount to nothing because the very reality of the emptiness remains regardless of your efforts in minimizing the emptiness in your soul. It only leads to a dead end, a sober realization that all your efforts were in vain when all you ever needed to do was simply invite Jesus into every part of your life. He delights when we speak boldly of our neediness and desperation for his being.

Truth sets us Free

The truth is God has formed us for oneness with his Spirit. That he desires that we worship him in truth and spirit John 4:24. The truth sets us free when we come to understand our complete dependency on Christ. That in him all things are new 2 Corinthians 5:17 therefore he alone can take an impure heart and create a pure heart. That in Christ alone all wickedness is brought into submission because he alone holds all power and authority Matthew 28:18. The truth is Jesus Christ John 4:24 personified and when we encounter his being through communion with the Holy Spirit we are set free. In knowing him we come to know all that he has done for us. In knowing him all attempts to fill a void are deemed worthless if it isn’t centred on Jesus Christ alone. The abundance of life is Found in him alone John 10:10. What is lack or emptiness when the one who consumes all things, who possess heaven and earth Genesis 14:19 lives in us. May we learn to praise him in truth and to boldly declare that a day in his presence is better than a 1000 days outside of his presence Psalms 84:10. That he alone can satisfy our deepest yearnings which is to be one with the one who has loved us before the foundation of this world.
